New Stimulus Bill | $1,000 Checks | Stimulus Package Update
According to AAA, the average cost of a gallon of gas hit $4.33 on March 11, 2022. Proposals to extend other forms of stimulus have hit a dead-end, namely the expanded federal Child Tax Credit. Now, a group of Democratic lawmakers is proposing a new stimulus payment that would help Americans struggling to pay for gas. Reps. Mike Thompson, D-California, John Larson, D-Connecticut, and Lauren Underwood, D-Illinois, have proposed the Gas Rebate Act of 2022. The proposal would send Americans $100 per month as an ”energy rebate” in any month where the national average gas price was over $4 per gallon. Families would receive $100 per dependent; a family of two adults and two children could receive $400 under this proposal. There would be limits. The rebate would phase out for individuals with an adjusted gross income over $75,000 and $150,000 for married couples. There is no information in the bill about how this payment would be funded. The bill has been introduced in the House and referred to the Ways and Means Committee.
