Raising the income limit for SNAP households beginning Sept. 1. SNAP (commonly referred to as food stamps) provides monthly food-purchasing assistance to low-income households. The new income limit means an additional 1,400 families may be eligible to receive SNAP assistance. After receiving federal approval, HHSC extended the amount of SNAP benefits people can receive based on family size. Recipients will also get a minimum of $95 in emergency allotments, which should appear in recipients’ accounts by Sept. 30, according to Abbott. SNAP food benefits and temporary assistance for low-income families via the Texas Lone Star Card, the state’s version of the EBT card. The Lone Star Card acts like a normal debit card and can be swiped at card readers to pay for qualifying items at the grocery store.
