Utility assistance programs help low income people across America pay their utility bills. Usually, these programs are only available in the wintertime but some areas have expanded their programs to include Spring in 2021!

I’m Nicole from Low Income Relief, where we help millions of people save money and get free stuff.

As many of you know, utility assistance is something I’ve been passionate about since we were slammed with that insane $3,364 power bill a few years ago. For more information about that bill – and how we received enough pledges to pay it off – you’ll need to watch our other videos.

In this video, we’re going to discuss the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and the surprise Springtime extension that is happening in some areas.

First, what is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program?

Often called LIHEAP, this program provides an energy subsidy for low income households. Basically, the program makes a direct payment to your utility provider to help offset your utility costs.

This program helps with heating and cooling costs, as well as bill payment assistance, crisis energy assistance, and even weatherization and energy-related home repairs!

LIHEAP is one of my favorite programs, personally. When we had our utility bill crisis, LIHEAP contributed $1,000 toward our bill and helped us receive over $18,000 in free home energy improvements! Our monthly utility bills dropped from over $600 per month to just $150 per month – and it made a huge difference in the comfort of our home.
