#1. The USDA is preparing to end all of the pandemic-related relief.
Most of the pandemic-related benefits, like emergency allotments and recertification waivers, are tied to the federal public health emergency declaration. When the public health emergency is over, all of the pandemic-related programs will end within about 30 days.
Although we do not know exactly when that will happen, the USDA has issued numerous memos and policy changes over the last quarter that urge states to brace for the end of these changes.
One memo dated December 8, 2021 said, “FNS expects states to actively prepare to operate under normal program rules in the future, especially with regard to interviews and certification periods… FNS does not expect to approve these COVID-19 flexibilities beyond the duration of the federal public health emergency.”
